Cantonese Hoisin sauce is a valued addition to many dishes. Its interesting sweet and spicy taste with a large dose of umami, it owes a mixture of fermented soybean paste, sugar, garlic, vinegar, sesame and chili, and a sweet addition, which in this recipe is a sweet potato.
It is most often used as an addition to meat, seafood, dumplings, tofu, rice or noodle dishes and soups.
